“With great technology comes great responsibility”
The European Technology Chamber (EUTECC) believes that technology obliges and should serve a greater good, hence our mission is to effectively use technology to solve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In our series, we are looking at all SDGs individually and today, we focus on SDG 4.

Goal #4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Education is the key that will allow many other SDGs to be achieved. When people are able to get quality education they can break from the cycle of poverty and have the ability to help themselves, their families and their communities to obtain a better future. It enables communities to address the most urgent issues on a local, regional and wider scale and to develop a sustainable future. In addition, better education means less inequalities in regards to gender inequalities but also regarding access to healthcare as well as the ability to make informed choices to lead a healthy and sustainable life. Education also helps to foster understanding and tolerance towards others and hence reduce

Today, however there are still 265 million children out of school and 57 million of the are of primary school age, while 617 million youth are lacking basic numerical and literacy skills.

Major causes for this lack of quality education are manifold: Not enouh trained teachers, lack of opportunity for children in rural, poor or conflict-laden areas to get to and attend school.

It is crucial however to allow every child to benefit from quality education to build a successfull future and thus building the base for the global community to successfully address the SDGs.

How can technology help to ensure this goal? From opening routes into education, investment into (online) teacher training, building schools in rural areas to online teaching there are numerous ways in how innovative technologies can help address the major obstacles and ensure good health and well-being for all.
