25 June – EU Tech Chamber Environment Council – Topic: Water Pollution – What can be Done

About 71% of the earth’s surface is water, one of our greatest resources. Unfortunately, a close inspection of the contamination of water bodies (like oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, aquifers and groundwater) shows how water pollution is an appalling problem, powerful enough to lead the world on a path of destruction.

What can be done? As stated in the 6th of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda, we must ensure water availability, sustainable management and sanitation for all. For this reason, is important to analyze the magnitude of water pollution as a global issue and identify its main sources such as discharge of domestic and industrial waste, agriculture, population growth and urbanization, among others.

Over the past decades, water pollution has been getting worse. However, many industries and sectors are now approaching this issue through innovative and revolutionary initiatives, advocating and acknowledging the importance of conserving water resources and abating pollution.
