Air pollution poses significant risks to human health, ecosystems, and the planet. Urgent action is needed from governments, industries, and individuals to reduce pollution through sustainable policies, technological advancements, and collective efforts.

To know more about the topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Environment Alliance organized a webinar on June 09, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Impacts of Air Pollution: The Costs of Taking No Action”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by Mr. Aimal Jehangir, who is the coordinator of the Environment Alliance. The event was co-moderated by Dr. Igor V. Gladkov, Director of Food, Farming, and Fisheries Alliance.

The keynote speaker for today’s webinar was Mr. Bahman Hamedebarghi, CEO of Nexus of Energy Efficiency and Environment Technologies. The other two panelists were Dr.Yadollah Saboohi, Chairman & CTO at Nexus of Energy Efficiency and Environment Technologies, and Ms. Monica E. Salirwe, Associate Director at Atacama consulting.

During the webinar, the speakers highlighted the impacts of air pollution on human societies especially social, economic and ecological effects. In the webinar policies and solutions were discussed, the panelists gave us an idea about how energy efficient processes can lead to better energy usage and reduced air pollution.

The Panelists shared their thoughts about environmental justice and how this could exacerbate existing social inequalities.

Air pollution was described as a silent serial killer, responsible for a staggering number of deaths. The speakers emphasized that approximately 7 million lives are lost each year as a result of exposure to both outdoor and household air pollution. Elaborating further, the speakers likely discussed the economic costs associated with air pollution and emphasized the need of collaborative action as it is a cross border problem.

In conclusion, the webinar shed light on the harmful consequences of air pollution, including its role in exacerbating the greenhouse effect and causing global warming. By implementing sustainable policies, embracing technological advancements, and raising awareness, we can work towards mitigating air pollution and protecting human health and the environment.
