SDG Alliance -SDGs in Developing Countries

SDGs are part of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. While all countries have faced challenges in implementing the SDGs, developing countries may face issues like financing, corruption, or socio-political settings that prevent effective moves towards reaching the SDGs.

To take a closer look at challenges and opportunities faced by developing countries in achieving the SDGs, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) SDG Alliance organized a webinar on November 10, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “SDGs in Developing Countries”.

The webinar started off with a brief overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by our moderator, Ms. Celisa Day who is the coordinator of the Climate Action Alliance.

The four panelists who participated in today’s event were:
·        Mr. Ivan Idrovo, External Consultant ILO,
·        Mr. Damani Thomas, Founder/CEO Carbon Neutral Initiative,
·        Mr. Joseph Manirakiza, Program Manager, FUNGUO Innovation Program UNDP Tanzania,
·        Ms. Tessa Taylor, Director African Virtual Bridging School (AVBS).

While addressing the webinar, the speakers focused on the market systems and value chain approach. Mr. Ivan Idrovo talked about regulations, laws, infrastructure, and financial services as the root causes of underperformance of the chains.

The speakers discussed some sustainable development challenges in the webinar as well. Some of them were climate change, low income, poor connectivity, and limited access to financial and extension services.

Moreover, they emphasized on the importance of sustainable development saying that all SDGs are equally important, and it is necessary to develop a strong coordination between public and private sector.

We want to thank our respectable speakers for their informed insights on this much-needed topic. Moreover, special thanks to Ms. Celisa Day for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.

Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next SDGs Alliance webinar on December 15, 2022, about “Trends and Opportunities in SDG Sectors”.
