Achieving Zero Hunger and Good Health & Well Being is a significant challenge as malnutrition affects 1/10 people, and 1/4 face food insecurity. The increasing population, economic crises, inflation, and natural disasters are major obstacles to this goal. To combat malnutrition, new ideas and innovations are necessary to promote sustainable initiatives.

To take a closer look, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) SDG Alliance organized a webinar on April 13, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Sustainable Initiatives to Eliminate Malnutrition”.

The webinar started off with a brief overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by Mr. Osama Ali, who is the coordinator of the SDG Alliance.

The three panelists who participated in today’s event were:

·        Dr. Dr Alok I Ranjan, Director of Programmes and Investments at The Power of Nutrition,
·        Dr. Saed Harsini, Group CEO at Behsotum Inteligent Medical Complex,
·        Mr. Ayoade Fadoju, Program Manager at Esomchi Foundation.

In the webinar, the speakers discussed global nutrition and provided recommendations to address the issue. They suggested transforming food systems to provide nutrient-rich diets, increasing efforts in food fortification and biofortification, and scaling up micronutrient supplementation programs.

Moreover, one of the speakers highlighted the potential of mushrooms in achieving SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). They described how the production of edible mushrooms is characterized by cost-effective raw materials, high nutrient content, low water consumption, and affordable production.

By leveraging these characteristics, the production of edible mushrooms has the potential to provide a sustainable and affordable source of nutrition to people in need around the world.
