Combined efforts to help achieve SDG 2 & 3: In March 2020 Senegal became the second Sub-Saharan country to report confirmed covid-19 cases after Nigeria. While the government took immediate action to protect its population, as the lock-down is still on-going it also clear that both, the country´s health sector and its population needed urgent being affected severely by additional threads like poverty and hunger as well as of lacking access to clean water and energy at the same time

The EU Tech Chamber reacted immediately to a request for help from the Diözesan-Caritas and initiated a project in summer 2020 to help in particular rural people in the regions Thiès and Diourbal. Thanks to effective collaborations with the additional partners from the Senegalese government, Catholic Church, DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungs mbH (develoPPP.de), Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, the EU Tech Chamber has been able to assist the country  by supporting 36 health facilities with medical materials (e.g. disinfection, protective masques and local Senegalese people with access to food (e.g. rice, milk powder) and hygienic sensitization campaigns. The most impressive result is that only within six months after kick-off the lives of 2,000 families could be protected.

The EU Tech Chamber is grateful for having being selected as a project leader for this highly-demanding and multi-continent initiative. After having successfully achieved all deliverables we would like to share our experiences and lessons learnt for future replication our new started Mustard-SEED-IHD with the Catholic Church as by other committed partners, of course.

Join our conversation with representatives from the Catholic Church, Senegalese & German government and from Mustard-SEED-IHD during our EU Tech Chamber Digital Africa Investment Panel on Wednesday March 17th, 2021 at 10:00-11:30 am CET to explore modern ways to advance with efficient international cooperations by bringing philantrophy & technology together with policy & economy.
