Our cities are under enormous stresses and need to find new coping mechanisms. Climate change and urbanization pose excessive challenges – Sponge City is a concept of urban planning to collect and store rainwater and thermal energy in cities locally. Benefits of it are the improvement of the urban climate and promotion of the health of urban trees as well as the avoidance of flooding during heavy rain events. Furthermore, the usage of underground thermal energy storages (UTES) provides an essential part in solving the heating transition in cities.

The Environment Council of the EU Tech Chamber takes great pleasure to welcome you to our upcoming Digital Event on “Sponge City: Water and Heat Storage” on Friday January 29th, 2021 starting at 9:00 am CET. We will provide insight into the advantages of using the sponge city concept to combat climate change.
