Africa Alliance -Why Africa should Embrace Digital Learning Solutions

Digital learning provides an opportunity to make access to education equitable to all in Africa. For effective e-learning, African governments should consider policies and strategies surrounding connectivity, skills development as well as contextual multilingual digital learning content.

To address this issue, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Africa Alliance organised a webinar on October 19, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “Why Africa should Embrace Digital Learning Solutions?”

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the five panelists by our moderator, Ms. Svetlana Nyameyo who is also the coordinator of the Africa Alliance.

The five honorable panelists for today’s webinar were:
·        Dr. Ikechi Agbugba, PhD (Agribusiness, Activist/Researcher)
·        Dr. Beatrice Bischof (Consultant, PR & Marketing Professional)
·        Mr. Riaan Rautenbach (Entrepreneur, Founder, CEO & MD at LIVE FR8)
·        Mr. Peter Gathercole (Founder & MD of International Apprenticeship & Competency Academy Ltd)
·        Mr. Guus Paardekooper (Co-founder & CEO at SkillEd)

While addressing the webinar, the speakers talked about the key challenges to scale up and ensuring sustainable growth in the field of digitalization. They discussed the challenges and talked about ways to overcome them. The major challenges discussed were:
·        Infrastructure, network availability and access for every person who want to learn.
·        Lack of organizations involved in establishing networks and digital learning facilities.
·        Accessibility of resources including technology devices and low-cost communication.

The speakers emphasized on the importance of digitalization in small and large-scale businesses in order to stay in competition and ensure sustainability. Empowering entrepreneurs and product funding were some of the recommendations discussed by our speakers in order to overcome the issue.

The concept of traditional education has changed radically after the COVID-19 pandemic, and it has significantly accelerated the need for digital dependence to deliver quality education.

We want to thank our respectable speakers for their informed insights on this much-needed topic. Moreover, special thanks to Ms. Svetlana Nyameyo for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.

Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions.

Stay tuned for our next Africa Alliance webinar on November 16, 2022, about “Evaluating Youth and Women Initiatives in Africa 2022”.
