The EU Tech Chamber Climate Action Alliance had a very interesting webinar on February 8, 2023. The topic of this digital talk was, “Climate Change and Human Health.”

The keynote speaker, Dr. Franziska Matthies-Wiesler, a senior researcher at the Institute of Epidemiology, Environmental Health Center, Helmholtz Zentrum München, shared her outstanding insights while presenting how climate change affects the social and environmental determinants of health: clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food and secure shelter.

Moving forward, she also discussed that in the coming few years, climate change is expected to cause additional deaths per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea and heat stress.

During the panel discussion, the other two astonished panelists, Nichiren T P, Global Scientific Project Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim, and Per Boesgaard, Sustainability Development Lead Associate at ARUP, also indulged in the discussion and said that the effects of climate change on human health and illness are many, and they interact with other natural and man-made health stressors. Health hazards that now exist will become more severe, and new ones will appear.

Promoted by the EU Tech Chamber and the Climate Action Alliance, today’s Digital Talk emphasized what initiatives we should take to make it easier to live in a changing climate and minimize the effects of climate change on human health.
