Interest surrounding data privacy and data protection has increased rapidly in recent years, signaling that digital transformation has gradually become a priority for business owners to consider. Despite this increasing interest, there remains a level of ambiguity, especially among smaller businesses.

To take a closer look at the topic and understand exactly how they can make a huge difference, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Digital Transformation Alliance organized a webinar on October 20, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “The Role of Data Privacy in Digital Transformation”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by Mr. Frederik Tchoungui who is the coordinator of the Digital Transformation Alliance.

The two honorable panelists who participated in today’s event were, Mr. Anastasios (Tas) Papakonstantinou, Senior Technology and Innovation Leader and Mr. Bengt Olsson, a senior validation engineer and entrepreneur of xVentures Technologies.

While addressing the webinar, the speakers discussed the basic differences between data privacy and data protection. Moreover, they also talked about the importance of data privacy and how certain data types are collected, transmitted, and used.

Furthermore, the panelists gave a quick overview about data protection trends such as data portability, mobile data protection, backups against ransomware and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). They also urged the listeners to adopt practices to secure their data. Some of them were:
1.     Communicate transparently and explicitly
2.     Minimize the collection and storage of personal data / declassifying data
3.     Demonstrate the benefits generated by collecting data / drive adoption
