Soil contamination and land pollution are critical environmental issues that continue to pose a significant threat to human health and the natural world. They can result from human activities, such as industrialization, intensive agriculture practices, and improper disposal of hazardous waste.

To know more about the topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Environment Alliance organized a webinar on May 05, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Soil Contamination and Land Pollution: A Hidden Threat”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by Mr. Jacopo Frattini, who is the coordinator of the Energy Alliance.

The two speakers for today’s webinar were Dr Ahmed Al-Hazmi, PhD, CEO at Al Madar, and Mr. David McCarley, Vice President at RPS.

During the webinar, the speakers discussed the High-Resolution Site Characterization (HRSC) approach for preventing soil contamination, highlighting its benefits and process. They mentioned that HRSC services can help in long-term cost and time savings, reducing remedial footprint, and improving remedial efficiency. Additionally, the speakers identified two critical issues that HRSC can address, which are sampling scale and data averaging, as well as coverage.

Moreover, the speakers noted that HRSC can help to minimize the environmental impact of remediation efforts by reducing the area that needs to be disturbed and treated. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining ideal conditions, such as appropriate pH levels and microorganisms, to achieve optimal outcomes.
