Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance -Technologies for Processing Agricultural Wastes”

The development of waste recycling technologies has become an important environmental strategy in global agriculture. In the EU creation of a “green” agricultural system, including an increase in the role of waste management, belongs to the key objectives of The European Green Deal 2019.

To address this topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance organised a webinar on January 27, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Technologies for Processing Agricultural Wastes”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by our moderator, Dr. Igor V. Gladkov who is the Director of the Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance.

The keynote speaker for today’s webinar was Mr. Raphael Schranz, Circular Economy Consultant, Austria. The other panelists were Ms. Aseel jaafar, Project Developer by Cultiva, Lebanon and Mr. Guenther Stocker, an agronomist and Founder and CEO of Eta GaS, Italy. Last but not the least, we had Dr. Ikechi Agbugba, an agribusiness activist and researcher.

While addressing the webinar, the speakers talked about the combined use of old and new practices/technologies achieve optimal outcomes. The keynote speaker discussed the logic of value creation in waste management process by explaining five simple steps: resource extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and dispose.

Moreover, they discussed the waste management hierarchy through an inverted pyramid concept. The key points were prevention, preparing for reuse, recycling, recover, and disposal. Some of the technologies that were discussed to process biological flows were:

·        Natural circular mechanism
·        Physiochemical
·        Thermochemical

We want to thank our speakers for their informed insights on the topic. Moreover, special thanks to Dr. Igor Gladkov for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.

Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance webinar on February 24, 2023, about “Sustainable Development of Multi-Structured Farming”.
