Healthy nutrition is important to keeping current and future generations healthy across the lifespan. Economic factors play a critical role and could influence personal diet status and health. As a result, hike in food prices have severely impacted the health and nutritional status of the population.

To address this issue, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) LatAm Alliance organised a webinar on October 12, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “Food, Eating Habits and Technology”.

The webinar started off with a brief overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the two panelists by our moderator, Mr. Salvatore Cavallaro who is also the coordinator of the LatAm Alliance.

The webinar started off with our first panelist, Mr. Paulo Silveira, founder & CEO of FoodTech Hub LatAm. The second speaker was Ms. Estefanía Gómez Endara, who is a food waste expert based in Ecuador, South America.

While addressing the webinar, the speakers talked about the importance of technology in order to create sustainable models with a circular ecosystem. They also discussed the ways to capitalize and mentor disruptive companies in the food chain that impact nutrition and wellness.

Moreover, the presenters also emphasized on creating an innovative environment with physical and intellectual infrastructure to create one of the best food innovation ecosystems in the world.

They also discussed some statistics regarding food wasting, stating that around 30% of the daily food that is produced worldwide is lost, however, majority of these products are still in good condition. According to stats, if only ¼ of the daily wasted food is saved, it can feed around 870m people.
