Smart solutions are a key aspect of building resilient cities. These solutions can include a wide range of technologies and innovations, such as renewable energy systems, smart transportation networks, green infrastructure, and advanced data analytics.

To learn more about this topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Smart Cities Alliance organized a webinar on May 02, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Creating Resilient Cities: Smart Solutions for Urban Challenges”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by our moderator, Mr. Jacopo Frattini who is a coordinator at the EU Tech Chamber.

The webinar started off with our keynote speaker, Ms. Jane Lumumba, Manager, Global Sectors and Government at KPMG Canada. The other three panelists were:

·        Mr. Domenico Mangiacapra, Chief Executive Officer at Henshin Group Ltd,
·        Mr. Dan O’Brien, Senior Associate at Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI),
·        Mr. Harmen Van De Wal, Consultant Social Space at GMCHNGRS-inc.

During the webinar, the speakers emphasized the crucial relationship between smart cities and sustainability, highlighting the need to strengthen and understand this linkage. This involves utilizing smart technologies and innovative solutions to build sustainable cities that can effectively manage and adapt to various challenges, including those related to economic, climate, and political resilience.

Overall, the webinar highlighted the importance of integrating these different forms of resilience into smart city planning and development, in order to build sustainable and resilient urban environments that can provide a high quality of life for all residents.
