WIT Alliance – How to get Support and Funding for Women in Tech

The EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Women in Tech (WiT) Alliance webinar on “How to Get Support and Funding for Women in Tech” started off with an introductory note and a short overview of EU Tech.

The event was moderated by Svetlana Nyameyo, an EUTECH coordinator, who gave a summary of today’s topic and a formal introduction of the distinguished panelists.

The panelists for today’s webinar were:
·      Kristina Mydlar, Founder & CEO at Mydlar Consulting Ltd,
·      Wambui Karanja, Co-founder at Tuifund,
·      🌎 Gillian Muessig – Mastersfund™, MD at Mastersfund.

At the commencement of the webinar, the speakers considered Venture Capitalism and its modus operandi. It was emphasized that women trying to garner funding seemed to be at the short end of the stick when it comes to conventional venture capitalism. Some percentages were specified, where men often end up with an offer 80% higher than what would be offered to a woman pitching the same thing.

Despite the challenges, however, the benefits of women in tech were also spoken of, including but not limited to better problem solving, driving innovation, increased revenue and return on investment. Not to mention the fact that there is currently a dearth of women decision makers. The need for a social enterprise model was highlighted, whereby public sector values, such as responsiveness to the community and serving the public interest, can coexist and collaborate with business principles, market characteristics, innovation, and a focus on profitability.

When more women are given funding and support, it will lead to diverse perspectives, increased creativity, and improved problem-solving abilities within the industry. So, investing in them has far-reaching benefits for society as a whole, as it helps bridge the digital divide, promotes social inclusion, and builds a more equitable future. And this needs to be consistently expressed.

We want to thank our experienced speakers for their valuable contributions. Moreover, special thanks to Ms. Svetlana Nyameyo for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.
Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next WiT Alliance webinar on July 25, 2023, about “Emerging Technologies: Who’s Governing?”
