Climate Action Alliance -Are NetZero Emission by 2050 still Possible?

To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, the global temperature increase must be limited to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Emissions, however, are still on the rise. To keep global warming under this limit, the emissions need to reach net-zero by 2050.

To address this issue, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Climate Action Alliance organised a webinar on November 09, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “Are NetZero Emissions By 2050 Still Possible?”

The webinar started off with a brief overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by our moderator, Ms. Celisa Day who is the coordinator of the Climate Action Alliance.

The two worthy panelists who joined our webinar today were Ms. Paula Huerta, Sustainable Architecture Consultant LEED, BREEAM, GM and Mr. Rajeshwar Bachu, Founder of Zero-Carbon Gmbh and Co-Founder of 42hacks.

While addressing the session, Ms. Paula Huerta focused on the key solutions that are necessary to achieve NetZero emissions. Her keynote speech emphasized the importance of sustainable architecture in the path towards a low carbon future. She spoke on the idea of circular economy and circular food systems, stressing the use of biodegradables and the breaking down of food waste. She also mentioned that strong lobbies are causing a hindrance to achieve this target and only public pressure can bring a change now.

On the other hand, Mr. Rajeshwar Bachu also added a few key points saying that to reach NetZero, it is pertinent that political as well as business leadership should make efforts to bring a change. He also mentioned the importance of removing CO2 from the atmosphere to offset emissions that are too costly for the planet, stressing that the current measures are not enough.
The speakers discussed the need of implementation of existing technologies rapidly at a very large scale to achieve NetZero emissions by 2050.

We want to thank our experienced speakers for their informed insights on this. Moreover, special thanks to Ms. Celisa Day for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.

Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next Climate Action Alliance webinar on December 14, 2022, at 9:00 am (CET), about “What are the Benefits of ESG Reporting?”
