Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance -SDG2: Sustainability and Recovery of Agriculture and Fish Stocks

Promoting sustainable agricultural development is a key factor in the implementation of SDG 2 programmes. This is of particular importance in the current conditions of economic destabilization, including in the field of energy resources, reducing imports of cereals, oil and raw materials, fertilizers.

To address this topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance organised a webinar on December 16, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “Sustainability and Recovery of Agriculture and Fish Stocks”.

The webinar started off with a short overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by our moderator, Dr. Igor V. Gladkov who is the Director of the Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance.

The keynote speaker for today’s webinar was Mr. Walter Haefeker, Honorary President European Professional Beekeepers Association, Germany. Second in line was Dr. Ikechi Agbugba, PhD, an agribusiness activist and researcher.

Then, we had Mr. Leonardo J. Sarquís, CEO for LatAm region BalGreen, Argentina. Last but not the least, we had Mr. Ariel Iván Ruiz Mateos, Co-founder of BalGreen.

While addressing the webinar, the speakers discussed the role of technology, digitalization, automation (including robotization) in animal husbandries and greenhouses. They further emphasized on the innovative developments to increase efficiency for renewable energy equipment.

Moreover, the panelists told the audience that digitalization will create a huge dependency for farmers and raised some questions regarding the process of digitalization. Some of them were:

·        Who owns the databases of images of crops?
·        Who owns the intellectual property?
·        Who owns the data that the robots collect?

We want to thank our experienced speakers for their informed insights on this. Moreover, special thanks to Dr. Igor Gladkov for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.

Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next Food, Farming and Fisheries Alliance webinar on January 27, 2023, at 9:00 am (CET), about “Technologies for Processing Agricultural Wastes”.
